In local rugby on Saturday Exmouth Cockles were well beaten by 45 points to 5 at Imperial Road by league leaders Exeter University who are closing in on the premier league promotion spot.

In the SouthWest One Division Crediton narrowly lost by 22 points to 19 at Somerset side North Petherton but Sidmouth had a  run away victory over Bridgwater & Albion by 42-3 at the Blackmore Ground.

Meanwhile in the Western Counties Division Teignmouth easily defeated visiting Bideford by 50 points to 0 at Bitton Park but winless Honiton were heavily beaten again going down 70-0 at Kingsbridge and Tiverton lost at home to league leaders Wadebridge Camels 29 points to 19.

Finally in the Devon and Cornwall League after last week's 109 point victory over Torquay Athletic Topsham had another huge win, this time by 89-7 over Cornish visitors  Veor at the Bonfire Field but they still remain one point behind league leaders Pirates Amateurs.

Cullompton lost ground on the top two when they were held to a 19 all draw at Saltash and Withycombe's poor run of results continued when they were well beaten at Torquay Athletic by 38 points to 8.
