Match Report: Banbury United 0-0 Exmouth Town

Exmouth Town produced an excellent defensive display to hold Banbury United to a 0-0 draw at the TUGO Community Stadium, in the FA Cup.

That means that their will be a replay at the Search4Local Stadium, this Wednesday with a 7:45pm kick-off.

Banbury United dominated the early proceedings, without creating any real chances, with an Alex Prosser shot flying over from range.

Town would start to establish themselves in the game, with the home defence doing some good defending to prevent them from getting a shot off.

Matt Wonnacott was forced into the massive save, as Joel Anker was played in behind, with a superb stop denying the winger.

Oran Jackson would be next to try his luck, but his shot flew over the bar.

Town would have their first chance of the game as Joe Belsten drove down the right hand side, before giving the ball to Aarron Denny, who fired straight at the goalkeeper.

A good ball saw Joey Evans in behind the Town defence, but it was well-read by Wonnacott.

The goalkeeper would make another vital save as he denied Levi Steele from point-blank range.

Banbury would continue to press in the second half, as Town managed to give it away in their own half, before Evans fired over the bar.

Exmouth would have their best chance of the game after 68 minutes, as Belsten’s cross met the head of Tom Bath, and his header struck the post. 

A goal-mouth scramble would ensue, which would end with an Ollie Knowles shot ending up in the goalkeeper’s hands.

Evans would have another shot from range, before Bath had a shot go over at the other end.

Exmouth were starting to push for a winner, as a cross was met by Ace High, but Matt Wright’s volley was fired past the post.

Banbury would make one last attempt for the winner, but they were unable to create any more clear chances against a resilient Town defence.

One last cross would see a header float across the Exmouth goal, but no home attackers were able to take the chance.

The result means that Exmouth’s next game will be a replay against Banbury, at the Search4Local Stadium this Wednesday (7:45pm KO).
