Match Report: Exmouth Town 1-2 Tavistock AFC

Exmouth Town were beaten 2-1 at Southern Road by Tavistock, in what was a bitty affair at Southern Road.

It was a game that never really got going, as the Lambs scored goals either side of a Tom Bath strike to leave victorious.

Town had a great chance to open the scoring from a set-piece, as Alex Kraus picked out Louis Morison, but his header floated wide.

Matt Wonnacott was forced into action from a free-kick, parrying away before a shot from the edge of the box deflected wide.

Exmouth were the main offenders when it came down to the stop-start nature of the game, as they committed a fair amount of needless fouls.

They were able to come close once again in the 28th minute, as Bath almost teed up Alex Cairo but his pass was slightly off, allowing Aarron Denny to sweep in and shot, with that being blocked.

The visitors would have a good chance themselves, when a cross was perfect for the Lambs striker, and his header went wide.

Tavistock would be allowed another chance to score, which they would duly take, as they were allowed plenty of space to attack the Town defence, ending with an excellent finish into the roof of the net.

Exmouth would have a great chance to level moments later, as the goalkeeper missed Kraus’ free-kick, but Bath’s first time effort flew over the bar.

Town would slowly start to attack more ten minutes or so into the second half, starting with a Matt Wright overhead kick which went wide.

Denny would then force a strong save from the goalkeeper, with the shot-stopper being in the right place to deny Bath’s near post header from the following corner.

The hosts would find the leveller just before the hour mark, as Wright’s interception led to him squaring across to Bath, and his sliding shot beat the ‘keeper.

Tavistock’s number one continued his great game, as some smart goalkeeping helped him close the angle on Bath as he burst in on goal from the left-side.

The visitors would find a late winner, capitalising on some hesitation between the defence and goalkeeper, to strike the ball off the bar and in.

Exmouth now have a small break between games before returning on August 1st, to take on fellow Southern League Division One South side Bideford at Southern Road.

Squad List: Wonnacott, Harris, Cann, Morison, Kraus, Shipton, Denny, Slater, Wright, Bath, Cairo, Croft, Cunningham, Ellis, High, Steer, Hawkins.
