Bovey Tracey Town Council recognised for excellence in local government

Bovey Tracey Town Council has been awarded the National Association of Local Councils (NALC) Silver Quality Award.

The title means the authority has met standards which, according to NALC, ‘signifies that a council excels in governance, community engagement, and continuous improvement.’

NALC adds: ‘Distinguished by going beyond mere legal obligations, quality councils emerge as leaders within their communities, consistently seeking opportunities to enhance and develop further.’

News of the achievement was announced at a meeting of the Full Council on Monday November 10.

Mayor Cllr Sheila Brooke praised Town Clerk Mark Wells for his dedication and professionalism which had helped win the title.

She said: ‘We’re pleased to announce that Bovey Tracey Town Council  has been awarded the National Association of Local Councils  (NALC) Quality Award, recognising excellence in local governance and community leadership.

‘This national award reflects our commitment to high standards in transparency, democratic accountability, community engagement, and effective service delivery. It shows that your council is well-run, responsive, and working hard to make a positive difference for local residents.

‘Achieving the Quality Award involved meeting rigorous criteria set by the NALC, from strong financial management and good governance to active communication and community involvement.

‘We would like to thank our councillors, staff, and volunteers for their dedication, and our residents for your continued support and involvement in helping us serve our community better every day.’

A decision about aiming for a Gold Award will be taken by staff and members.
