A grant of up to £10,000 from the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner is being sought by Bovey Tracey Town Council as it looks to replace the community’s redundant CCTV system.
A meeting of the authority’s Recreation, Parks and Facilities Committee heard that a three-stage project was being considered, starting with the replacement of the four defunct cameras around the town centre.
A second but more complicated phase could include coverage of Mill Marsh Park and the third extend the system to include the lower end of town.
Town Clerk Mark Wells told members that when the scheme had been operational the Police had requested footage up to 12 times a year following alleged incidents but now the cameras were no longer working.
Mayor Cllr Sheila Brooke described the OPCC’s grant offer as ‘an opportunity’ and that the provision of CCTV was part of the Bovey Tracey Strategic Plan.
Members agreed to pursue the grant.
Town and parish councils interested in applying for CCTV funding must complete an Expression of Interest form by Friday October 24.
Grants will require match-funding.
