Broadmeadow Leisure Centre reopens following major refurbishment

Teignbridge District Council is pleased to announce that Broadmeadow Sports Centre has officially reopened, following a comprehensive refurbishment programme that enhances both the quality of the facilities and the environmental performance of the building.

This significant investment reflects the Council’s ongoing commitment to providing high-quality, accessible leisure services while supporting our commitment to reduce carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency.

The refurbishment has delivered a range of improvements to the centre’s layout and amenities, including:

  • A relocated main entrance on the car park side of the building, improving accessibility for all users.

  • Expanded fitness studios and the addition of a new ground-floor studio to support a broader class timetable.

  • A larger gym area equipped with modern fitness equipment.

  • A reconfigured sports hall with a full-size four-court layout.

  • Refurbished changing facilities, including a new village changing area to support families and all user groups.

The project also marks a major milestone in the Council’s decarbonisation strategy. Broadmeadow is now fully electric, powered in part by rooftop solar panels. Heat recovery ventilation has been introduced for fresh air, LED lighting installed for bright, welcoming spaces, and room-by-room temperature controls to ensure comfort in every corner.

Gas boilers have been removed and replaced by efficient low carbon air source heat pumps. In addition, insulation has been added to walls and roofs to reduce heat loss, and double-glazed windows have been installed to preserve the beautiful views of the Teign Estuary.

Broadmeadow now offers a brighter, inclusive, and more energy-efficient space for everyone.

To celebrate the reopening, new members at Broadmeadow Sports Centre will benefit from no joining fee and one month free during the first month of operation.
