Work to refurbish Newton Abbot’s main Market Square is almost complete.

A project to install new paving and infrastructure will continue in the square until mid-November before moving on to the new pedestrian route through to Market Street.
The project is part of a full-scale refurbishment and redevelopment of the Market Hall and Market Square which Teignbridge Council says is ‘progressing well’.
The council says the aim is to revitalise the town centre and create a ‘vibrant destination’ for daytime and evening trading. There will be a mix of retail, food, events and a bar, with space for pop-up activities in the main hall.
A management company will be appointed to run the Market Hall when it reopens next year. Local company Wignalls is building the new trading units and bar which will be ready for installation later this year.
A spokesman for the council said: “We are grateful to local businesses and traders for their patience and co-operation during the works.”
The target is for the project to be completed early in 2026.
