Bovey Tracey Town Council is to call on Devon and Cornwall Police to reinstate its practice of sending officers to authority meetings.
The matter was raised at Full Council when it met at The Riverside Community Centre this week.
Mayor Cllr Sheila Brooke said she was aware of an increased use of the drug ketamine in the area and was worried for residents’ welfare, particularly youths.
‘It’s a huge risk for our young people,’ she told members.
Deputy Mayor Cllr Martyn Evans noted that neither had the Constabulary sent in a report as requested nor had it made an officer available to attend.
‘It’s not the first time that police have not attended this meeting,’ he said.
‘Perhaps we should write to the Chief Constable or Police and Crime commissioner Alison Hernandez or this will carry on.
‘We need to let them know that they should turn up.’
Cllr Brooke said it had been ‘a bit of a difficult time’ for the police owing to staff vacancies but vowed to apply pressure.
‘As your OPPC (Office of Police and Crime Commissioner) representative I’ll pick that up, it would be really useful to have a local officer here at our meetings again,’ she said.
