Devon & Cornwall Police has made a referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) following the death of a 28-year-old man in Torquay on Thursday 15 January.
The man was arrested in Torquay in the early hours of 15 January and was taken to Torquay Custody Centre. He became unwell while in a custody cell and was given emergency medical treatment before being taken to Torbay District Hospital by ambulance. Sadly, he was later pronounced deceased.
The man’s next-of-kin have been informed.
The Force made a mandatory referral and is co-operating fully with an independent IOPC investigation.
