Nigel Tant
I always loved the radio. Growing up in the 50s and 60s I started listening and discovering music which is still my passion to this day – the old BBC Light programme with DJs like Brian Mathew on Saturday Club and Alan Freeman’s Pick Of The Pops, Radio Luxemberg on my little transistor radio with an earpiece under the bedcovers, then the Pirate stations like Radio London and Caroline – these were my musical education.
In 1966 I went to my first ever concert – The Who, supported by The Spencer Davis Group at the Edmonton Regal in North London (a stones’ throw from my other passion, Tottenham Hotspur!), and have been going to live music ever since. Back in the day we could see rock legends like Jethro Tull, (early) Fleetwood Mac, Taste and the like in the pubs, and then there were the folk clubs to see John Renbourne, Bert Jansch etc. Later on I’ve managed to see most of my favourites over the years – The Rolling Stones, Cream, Roy Orbison, The Beach Boys, Paul McCartney (but sadly I was just too young to see the Beatles), The Eagles, (later)Fleetwood Mac, Dr. Feelgood, Bob Dylan...so many!...and I love discovering new bands and acts to this day.
I try to bring that passion to my shows on DevonAir Radio, and bring you great music to discover too!
