Colour palette for Sidmouth beach huts proposed

The new colours for Sidmouth’s beach huts have been proposed as work continues to upgrade the iconic structures.

A range of pastel colours have been chosen by the applicant, The Bailey Partnership, that has been commissioned to carry out the work.
Permission was granted in September for the beach huts at Jacob’s Ladder to be replaced, but a range of conditions were attached to ensure the existing structures can be as closely copied as possible.
Now images have been created showing the proposed colour scheme for the new huts. Those potential colours are included within a follow-up planning application that seeks to show that the developer has met the conditions required of it by East Devon District Council.
The latest application also deals with the pitch of the roofs on the huts, as well as elements linked to flood risk assessments and building materials.
It is likely a decision will be made by planning officers alone, however, if a Sidmouth councillor objects to the proposed colours, then the choice may well be put before East Devon District Council’s planning committee.
The applicant states that the roof pitch has been made “slightly shallower” and the door position altered, with a small gap shown between each hut.
The firm also said the new colours were chosen to “best match the existing ones”, and that it could confirm no electrical or mechanical installations would be included in the beach huts, while also outlining that the huts would be constructed from a “composite material so they will not rot”.
