Cranbrook Country Park Celebrates Second Green Flag Award as One of the UK’s Best Parks

Cranbrook Town Council is delighted to announce that Cranbrook Country Park has once again been awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award, officially recognising it as one of the very best parks and green spaces in the UK.

This is the second consecutive year that Cranbrook Country Park has achieved this international quality mark, reflecting the dedication, care, and vision of the Town Council, together with the grounds maintenance team and the many volunteers who help manage and care for the park for everyone to enjoy.

The award follows a year of significant progress in enhancing the park’s green spaces and conservation efforts. Highlights include the tree planting initiative launched last winter, which has already seen more than 3,000 trees planted to enrich biodiversity and create new habitats for wildlife.

Green Flag Award Scheme Manager, Paul Todd MBE, said: “Congratulations to everyone involved in Cranbrook who have worked tirelessly to ensure that it achieves the high standards required for the Green Flag Award.

“Quality parks and green spaces like Cranbrook Country Park make the country a heathier place to live and work in, and a stronger place in which to invest.

“Crucially, Cranbrook Country Park is a vital green space for communities in Devon to enjoy nature, and during the ongoing cost of living crisis it is a free and safe space for families to socialise. It also provides important opportunities for local people and visitors to reap the physical and mental health benefits of green space.”

Councillor Les Bayliss, Chairman of Cranbrook Town Council, said: “We are absolutely delighted that Cranbrook Country Park has received the Green Flag Award for the second year running. This prestigious recognition reflects the hard work and dedication of our staff, volunteers, and local community, who take such pride in caring for this wonderful green space.”

“The Green Flag Award shows what can be achieved when our community comes together to create and maintain a beautiful, accessible, and sustainable environment for everyone. Our tree planting programme, which began last winter, has been a major step forward in making the Country Park an even more vibrant and resilient green space for the future. We are proud of the Country Park and remain committed to maintaining the high standards that make it a welcoming, safe, and beautiful place for everyone to enjoy. We hope residents and visitors will continue to appreciate it and help look after this special place with us.”

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
