Devon Man Sentenced for Fraud After Abusing Position at Building Supplies Firm

A Devon man has been sentenced to a community order and ordered to pay more than £2,000 in compensation after pleading guilty to fraud.

A Devon man has been sentenced to a community order and ordered to pay more than £2,000 in compensation after pleading guilty to fraud.

Dion Newcombe, 49, appeared at Exeter Magistrates’ Court on Monday, February 3. He admitted to committing fraud by abuse of position under sections 1 and 4 of the Fraud Act 2006.

Newcombe had worked as the branch manager of Bradfords Building Supplies in Exmouth between December 1, 2019, and October 4, 2021. The court heard that he abused his role to make personal financial gains totaling £2,894.81.

Newcombe, of Yew Tree Drive in Kingsteignton, was sentenced to a 12-month community order, which includes completing 150 hours of unpaid work. He was also ordered to pay £85 in court costs, a £114 victim surcharge, and compensation of £2,894.81.
