Outstanding police officers who work across Devon and Cornwall were given special awards last week.

PC George House, based in Exeter city centre, was Highly Commended in the Neighbourhood Beat Manager of the Year category. The officers received certificates to mark their achievements.

The first annual Excellence in Policing Awards ceremony took place at Sandy Park conference centre in Exeter on Friday 14 June. The event was organised by the Museum of Policing in Devon and Cornwall and a total of 22 awards were handed out.

The honours were presented by Devon & Cornwall Police’s Acting Chief Constable Jim Colwell, Police & Crime Commissioner of Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, Alison Hernandez and Chair of the Museum of Policing, Steve Pearce QPM DL.

The citation for PC George House reads “George is the Neighbourhood Beat Manager for Exeter City Centre, where he is an exemplary officer, displaying exceptional motivation and dedication to serving the public and his team.

“He consistently goes above and beyond in his relentless pursuit of justice: volunteering for complex or arduous tasks to drive a positive outcome. George’s local knowledge is very impressive; he works to develop and disseminate intelligence to keep the city centre safe.

“In addition to his role as a Neighbourhood Beat Manager, George often mentors student officers - sharing his policing knowledge with those who are developing theirs - and supports other departments and others in his own team. Those around him provide consistent feedback that George is inspiring, knowledgeable, and supportive.”

Chief Superintendent Jennifer Bristow is the policing commander who covers Exeter where Constable George House serves.

She added: “I am very proud of these officers who are a fantastic example of diligent, dedicated colleagues who go that extra mile to help communities in Devon & Cornwall, keep the public safe and support each other. They are an inspiration to their teams and I would like to add my thanks to them and congratulate them on their achievements so far.”

John Casson MBE, Patron of the Museum of Policing in Devon and Cornwall said: “We are delighted to have organised this important event to reflect recognition of excellence in policing.”
