Wales & West Utilities is making good progress with its work to upgrade the gas pipes in the Salterton Road area of Exmouth.
The £552,000 investment project began in February and is part of a scheme which is essential to keep the gas flowing safely and reliably to local homes and businesses, keeping people warm for generations to come.
The gas emergency and pipeline service has liaised with Devon County Council to plan the work, and it has been agreed that traffic management will be in place. This includes:
- A road closure on Salterton Road service road (2 - 20 June)
- A parking suspension on Salterton Road until 20 June
- A road closure on Chapel Lane (23 June – end August). Access for residents will be communicated directly.
Wales & West Utilities Roxanne Whittaker is managing this work and said:
We are making good progress with this project and, barring any engineering difficulties, we are on track to finish during November.
We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.
While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across the area. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.
This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.
