There has been a recent spate of Impersonation Frauds in Rural East Devon where scammers will call victims pretending to be a Police Officer.
They will give you their name, shoulder number, and station, which will all be fake.
They will then state they are trying to identify counterfeit money and require your help, or will state that your bank account has been hacked. The scammers will then convince victims to withdraw money and will then collect it from their home address.
Unfortunately, this has led to victims losing thousands of pounds to these scammers.
Police will never ask for you to send, transfer, or withdraw money. If you ever receive a call from a Police Officer and you are unsure of their identity, end the call and call 101 to check their identification. Honiton Police Station is also open Monday to Saturday 10:00 till 15:00 if you wish to speak to a Police Officer in person.
The police want to warn the public to remain vigilant of these scams, but also to discuss these incidents with family members and friends, especially those who are vulnerable.
