Sidmouth Town Council is proud to announce a bold new chapter in its youth services provision.
Following extensive consultation, research, and collaboration with young people and community partners, the Council has decided to take its non-statutory youth services in a new and exciting direction. As part of this transition, Young Devon has made the decision to step back from delivering youth services in the Sid Valley after this summer, following a decade of dedicated partnership. Young Devon and Sidmouth Town Council will support the transition and both are committed to a smooth handover, with no gap in service for young people.
Councillor Rachel Perram, Chair of the Youth Provision Committee, commented: “Looking ahead, this is the start of a new and exciting chapter for our young people. The Town Council has listened and is already working behind the scenes to shape a fresh programme. This includes club nights, creative activities, life-skills sessions, and events at new venues. These are set to launch in the new academic year. We want to welcome many more people and enrich their lives in our lovely valley. Make sure to stay in touch via social media and community notices for more details.”
In 2015, when Devon County Council youth clubs across the region were sadly closing, Sidmouth Town Council took decisive action to support its community. Partnering with Young Devon, they created a welcoming, safe space for young people in the Sid Valley to connect, grow, and thrive.
Young Devon and Sidmouth Town Council are extremely proud of a decade long partnership, this partnership has delivered opportunities for young people, supported their personal development, created lifelong memories, and built a youth service rooted in the heart of the community.
Young Devon’s Duncan Cherrett expressed gratitude for the partnership: “We want to sincerely thank the Town Council for their support and investment in youth services over the last ten years. The Council has always been, and will continue to be, a beacon of commitment to, and passion for, young people in its community. We remain proud of the work we have done in Sidmouth, of the young people we’ve supported, and of the relationships we’ve built within the local community.” While the moment comes with some sadness, the overwhelming feeling on both sides is one of gratitude and pride. Young Devon will continue to focus its efforts locally on expanding mental health support for young people across schools and communities in East Devon
