Detectives are appealing for witnesses to get in touch following two reports of serious sexual assaults in Exeter on Friday 9 May
Both incidents occurred in the area of Digby and Sowton Train Station between 8.45pm and 10pm.
A 16-year-old girl was raped on Clyst Halt Avenue at around 9pm.
A 17-year-old girl was sexually assaulted on the train platform at around 9.30pm and was further assaulted while on a train travelling into Exeter St David’s.
A 19-year-old man from Exeter has been arrested on suspicion of rape and sexual assault. He remains in police custody at this time.
Detective Chief Inspector Dave Pebworth said: “Detectives are investigating reports of two very serious incidents which occurred in Exeter last night.
“Both victims are being supported by specialist officers and at this time, we are not seeking anyone else in relation to these incidents.”
DCI Pebworth added: “We believe that there were lots of people in the area of Digby and Sowton last night and we are urging anyone with information which may assist us to please get in touch.
“A number of scene guards will be in place today as we continue our investigation and there is an increased high visibility presence.”
