Residents, businesses, and organisations in the surrounding area of Cranbrook are invited to share their thoughts in a review of how their communities can best be governed at the parish level.
To reflect that some residents in Cranbrook’s planned expansion areas currently live within the boundaries of other parish councils, Cranbrook Town Council requested a Community Governance Review in December 2024. The aim of a Community Governance Review is to ensure that appropriate community engagement and local democracy arrangements are in place to support the effective and convenient delivery of local services.
Each town and parish council in the review area is responsible for providing services to its residents, which East Devon District Council (EDDC) or Devon County Council does not cover. The review aims to ensure residents feel that the governance arrangements for the affected area, including the parish and town council boundaries and the number of councillors elected to them, are appropriate.
The request for a review followed key landmark moments for the town’s development, including the adoption of the Cranbrook Plan in late 2022. EDDC produced a report recommending that now is an appropriate time for a review. Councillors voted for it to go ahead at a Full Council meeting on Wednesday 26 February 2025.
Have your say by the deadline of 5pm on Friday 24 October 2025. You can take part by visiting eastdevon.gov.uk/CranbrookCGR.
