An Amber Heat-Health Alert has been issued for the South West and will be in place from 9am on Wednesday 8 July until 9pm on Sunday 12 July.
High temperatures can affect everyone, but they pose the greatest risk to:
Older people, particularly those aged 65+
People with existing health conditions
Young children and babies
Pregnant women
Those living alone or in poorly ventilated homes
During the alert, there may be increased pressure on health and care services, and the hot weather could lead to more heat-related illnesses and water safety incidents.
Help keep yourself and others safe by:
Drinking plenty of water
Keeping your home as cool as possible
Wearing sunscreen and avoiding the hottest part of the day where possible
Checking in on older relatives, neighbours and vulnerable friends
Taking extra care around rivers, lakes and the sea, as cold-water shock remains a serious risk even in hot weather
Please look out for those who may need extra support during the warmer weather.
Stay safe, stay cool, and keep an eye on the latest weather and health advice over the coming days.
