Exeter Respect Festival is set to bring entertainment and education to Belmont Park from 6–7 June as it returns for its 29th year.
The South West’s longest-running festival for diversity and inclusion will bring pulsating music, interactive workshops, global cuisine and family fun to the city of Exeter.
Festivalgoers can expect a dynamic line-up of 3 stages offering entertaining performances from around the world as well as the chance to browse global food, fine clothing and handmade crafts from a variety of stalls.
The main stage, The Mandela Stage, will host a range of live music and dance as well as talks exploring issues of social justice, equality and inclusion.
This year’s headline act for Saturday will be Avtar, leading a Punjabi dance extravaganza, including Bhangra Folk Dance – an uplifting fusion of folk dance and music which originates from Northern India.
On Sunday Crina will bring a vibrant fusion of Romanian sounds to the stage. The high-energy band celebrate cultural diversity through music that gets everyone moving and brings people together.
The Stephen Lawrence Stage will also return to the festival with a range of emerging talent, original music and creative performance across the weekend.
Named in memory of Stephen Lawrence, the stage celebrates creativity, diversity and the importance of giving young and independent artists a platform to be heard.
The theme for this year’s festival is “Different roots, one community” speaking to the rich tapestry of cultures, histories and experiences that make up Exeter and the wider region.
The first Exeter Respect festival took place in 1997 and since 2009 the event has been a two-day festival in Belmont Park after previously being held at Exeter Phoenix Arts Centre, now attracting a footfall of around 20,000 people every year.
Doors will open on Saturday at 11:30, with the festival starting at 12:00. On Sunday the doors open and the festival will start at 11:00.
Admission is £2 per day and free of charge for under 16s.
