Get back on your bike with confidence this summer. Libraries Unlimited is partnering with Ride On to offer free Dr Bike safety check sessions at four libraries this May and June.
Each appointment lasts 30 minutes and is completely free but must be booked in advance.
Delivered with the Ride On team, these sessions are designed not only to check bikes for safety and performance, but to also teach participants how to maintain their bikes themselves. The aim is to empower people with the skills and confidence to cycle more regularly, for both mental and physical wellbeing and to make cheaper and more sustainable travel choices.
Sam Wright from Ride On said “Our free bike checks are a great way to ensure your bike is working well for the summer. We find lots of people are held back by basic maintenance issues that are easily remedied - and our friendly mechanics will be happy to show you some basics to empower you in the future. Freshly adjusted brakes, well inflated tyres and well-tuned gears can make a huge difference to how the bike performs, so book yourself a safety check and we'll get you rolling!”
The events are timed to coincide with Naturally Healthy May, part of Devon’s Naturally Healthy initiative, led by Active Devon and Devon County Council on behalf of the Local Nature Partnership. and the start of the spring/summer cycling season, when many people bring their bikes out after winter storage and may need help with maintenance.
This partnership marks the first time Libraries Unlimited and Ride On have collaborated to deliver free bike repair and safety sessions within library spaces, bringing practical, accessible support directly into the heart of communities. These sessions are part of Together for Tomorrow, an ambitious five-year programme led by Libraries Unlimited in partnership with Resource Futures and CAG Devon. Funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, Together for Tomorrow is transforming libraries into hubs for sustainability. Offering initiatives such as repair cafes, community fridges, growing projects, sewing groups, low waste living workshops and much more. The programme connects communities, provides training and resources, and supports local people to turn their ideas into meaningful climate action.
