Nine new councillors have been welcomed on to Exeter City Council following last week’s elections.
The new councillors were inducted on to the City Council on Tuesday morning (12 May).
They are as follows:
- Cllr Lucy Findlay (Labour and Co-operative Party) - Alphington ward
- Cllr Stella Smith (The Green Party) – Heavitree ward
- Cllr Helen Terry (The Green Party) - Heavitree ward
- Cllr Bernadette Chelvanayagam (The Green Party) – Newtown and St Leonards ward
- Cllr Gill Baker (The Green Party) – Pennnsylvania ward
- Cllr Nicholas Williams (Reform UK) – Priory ward
- Cllr Brian Rappert (The Green Party) – St David’s ward
- Cllr Paul Richards (Liberal Democrats) – St Loyes ward
- Cllr Jack Reed (The Green Party) – St Thomas
A total of 14 councillors were elected on the night – Green six, Labour four, Liberal Democrat two and Reform two.
Labour remains the biggest party on the City Council but there is no overall control.
The Labour Party has 18 seats, with the Green Party now on ten, Liberal Democrats on five, Reform on three, Independents on two and Conservatives on one.
The Green Party gained seats in Newtown & St Leonards, Pennsylvania and St Thomas, while Liberal Democrats gained a seat in St Loyes, and Reform gained a seat in Priory.
A total of 14 seats were contested in 13 wards across the city, with an extra seat in Heavitree due to a Cllr stepping down prior to the elections.
