People in Exeter who applied for a postal vote for next month’s City Council elections can expect to receive these very soon.
Exeter goes to the polls for all 13 wards across the city on Thursday 7 May.
Thousands of postal votes are being issued on Thursday 23 April and will drop through letterboxes over the coming days.
People are being reminded to complete and return their postal votes as soon as possible.
For those who don’t get around to returning their postal votes in the post, there is an opportunity to return these at a polling station across the city. However, due to new legislation, everyone who does so on the day, will need to complete a form when returning it at a polling station.
Polling stations – a total of 55 – across Exeter – will be open from 7am until 10pm on the day of the election. Voters can find out which polling station they need to go to on the day by visiting the City Council’s website and inputting their post code or address: exeter.gov.uk/pollingstations
And voters are being reminded that they need to make sure they bring appropriate photo ID when voting.
The requirement was introduced by the government in 2023 and applies to those voting in person at a polling station.
A passport, driving licence, or an older person’s bus pass are just three of a number of forms of ID that are accepted.
For a full list of accepted ID, people can visit the Electoral Commission website at Accepted forms of photo ID | Electoral Commission
Anyone without accepted ID can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate. The deadline for this is 5pm on Tuesday 28 April. More information is available on the Electoral Commission website: Voter ID | Electoral Commission
And finally, there’s still time to apply for a proxy vote. The deadline for proxy votes is 5pm on Tuesday 28 April.
