Drivers will be breathing a sigh of relief as a lane closure on a major Devon road is set to soon come to an end.
A landslip on the eastbound carriageway at Rawridge, near Honiton, meant one side of the road was closed, with traffic controlled by temporary traffic lights.
At peak times, the queues have snaked back for hundreds of metres, if not miles, as motorists head towards Honiton from the east.
Tailbacks were witnessed as parts of the country began their Easter holidays and headed to Devon, with long queues of traffic building up at the temporary lights that were controlling traffic flow intermittently on the single open side of the road.
With work coming to an end, the lane closure is set to end in just a few days’ time, on Wednesday 22 April.
Jonny Hill, route manager for National Highways, said: “Safety is our number one priority and due to a landslip, we installed an eastbound lane closure on the A30 at Rawridge Hill, with two-way traffic signals in place to protect road users but also to keep delays to a minimum.
“We experienced some delays during the initial works but we’ve been working hard to complete the repairs as quickly as possible and anticipate the road fully reopening on the morning of the 22nd April.
“The signals will be required until completion of these works.
“We thank drivers for their patience whilst we carry out this essential safety work.”
