A number of roads around Paignton seafront will be closed to allow emergency services to get to and from areas packed with crowds enjoying the three-day English Riviera Airshow.
The show runs from Friday May 29 to Sunday May 31 and features displays from the Red Arrows, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, and RAF Typhoon and many others.
Torbay Council has just released a detailed breakdown of the road closures around the seafront.
As part of the event organisation, it says, several safety and traffic management measures will be put in place to limit vehicular access around Paignton seafront, Preston seafront and the surrounding residential areas.
The council says: “These restrictions, which have worked well in previous years, have been put in place to ensure that emergency service vehicles can still access all areas, and to ensure minimum disruption is caused to residents by visitors to the airshow.”
Paignton’s Esplanade Road will be closed from 2pm until 10.30pm on Friday May 29 and from 10am until 6pm on both Saturday May 30 and sunday May 31.
Nearby Marine Parade, Lower Polsham Road, Torbay Road and Sands Road will all have closures, and there will be no access onto Sands Road from Whitstone Road except for people getting to and from hotels and guest houses, local residents and people using designated airshow parking.
Paignton Harbour remains accessible while Lower Polsham Road, Garfield Road and Queens Road will be temporarily two-way to allow drivers to get in and out of the Victoria Car Park.
The council says there will be several specific on-street parking suspensions which will be advertised and enforced, and is advising drivers to check any on-street notices on display.
Roads included will include Garfield Road, Torbay Road, Queens Road, Beach Road, Kernou Road, Colin Road, Whitstone Road, Sands Road and Roundham Road
The airshow weekend begins earlier than normal, with an extended Friday programme starting with events, stalls and funfair on Paignton seafront from 2pm. There will be live music, food and drink. Flying will take place from 6.30pm, and the evening will conclude with a fireworks display.
The Friday evening line-up, starting from 6.45pm, features the RAF Red Arrows; the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight comprising a Dakota, a Hurricane and a Spitfire; an RAF Tutor and the Firebirds with an evening pyrotechnic display.
Saturday’s scheduled displays, from noon onwards, are the RAF Red Arrows; Aerosuperbatics Wingwalkers; Jet Provost; Battle of Britain Memorial Flight; RAF Tutor; Royal Navy Black Cats; The Firebirds; Jet Pitts from Rich Goodwin Airshows and the RAF Typhoon.
In the air on Sunday from 1pm will be the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight; Aerosuperbatics Wingwalkers; RAF Tutor; Jet Provost; The Firebirds; Royal Navy Black Cats; Jet Pitts from Rich Goodwin Airshows and the RAF Typhoon
