People in Exeter are being asked to consider others when setting off fireworks over the coming days.
With Guy Fawks Night just around the corner, many people will be making plans to enjoy the fireworks.
Some may be attending organised displays, whilst others will be arranging their own private parties.
Cllr Ruth Williams, Deputy Leader and Lead Councillor for Support Services and City Management said: “November the Fifth is a special occasion for all of us, and we want everyone to enjoy this time of year.
“The last thing we want to do is be a killjoy. However, we all need to consider others when thinking about fireworks.
“It doesn’t take much to knock on the door of a neighbour and explain that you’re letting off a few fireworks, so that they can be prepared and take any measures needed to keep their pets safe and out of harm’s way.
“It’s also worth bearing in mind that fireworks and bonfires in particular have a detrimental effect on air quality, so joining an organised event rather than having your own one is one way of minimising any spike in small particulates in the air we breathe.”
The RSPCA offer advice on how to keep cats, dogs and small animals safe amidst all the noise.
