Construction work on phase 2 of the Ogwell Walking and Cycling Link project will begin week commencing 4 May 2026, marking the next stage in the delivery of a key active travel route for Newton Abbot and the surrounding area.
This phase will deliver a new 90‑metre shared‑use path for walking, wheeling and cycling. The route will extend from Bakers Park, pass through the existing hedgerow, cross the driveway to Bradley Manor, and connect through to Beverley Way, further strengthening safe and sustainable travel links.
Phase 1, completed in 2024, delivered a new section of pathway alongside the tennis courts, road improvements at Steppes Meadow, and enhanced access at Bakers Park car park. This initial phase marked the first step in creating a safe and convenient alternative to Totnes Road, giving residents and visitors greater confidence to walk, wheel, or cycle between the town centre and Ogwell.
Jointly delivered by Teignbridge District Council (TDC) and Devon County Council (DCC) the works for phase 2 will involve construction of a new shared-use path, along with associated drainage, boundary treatments, and landscaping where required.
A small temporary works compound will be established near Beverley Way to safely support construction activities. To accommodate this, access to on-street parking will not be permitted for the duration of the works at the end of Beverley Way opposite properties 6 to 12.
This next phase is funded through the Active Travel Fund, Devon County Council Local Transport Plan grant, Homes England funding and Section 106 contributions administered by TDC.
Construction is expected to last around 10 weeks, subject to weather and site conditions. Normal working hours will be 7.30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.
Local residents have been informed of the works, and every effort will be made to minimise noise and disruption. Safe access will be maintained wherever possible, and emergency access will always be available.
