Even more homes could be bolted onto the edge of Topsham as a plan for up to 35 homes has been submitted.
The outline scheme, by developer Waddeton Park, is proposed on a parcel of land wedged between Clyst Road and Whitehall Lane.
It neighbours one site which has just been approved and another where construction is already underway – together those two sites accommodate 255 homes.
Plans submitted to East Devon District Council show the proposal includes homes – some affordable – ranging from one- to four-bedroom, with about 45 per cent of the site reserved as open space. There will be a mix of apartments and houses.
The land is technically within the parish of Clyst St George, but is directly next to Topsham, which is overseen by Exeter City Council.
The developer wants to create vehicular and pedestrian/cycle pathways connecting the site to Clyst Road to the east.
“The development at Clyst Road seeks to establish the basis for a residential scheme that is characterised by its location, a green and leafy environment, memorable streets and spaces and a range of open market and affordable family homes – a lovely place to live,” documents attached to the plans state.
It adds trees will be retained, noting that the primary street through the development is “envisioned as a distinct, well-contained, tree-lined route”.
It is not yet clear when the application will be discussed by East Devon District Council’s planning committee.
