Did you know that today (4th June) is Devon Day? Here in the UK there are no celebrations. However in Devon, Alberta Canada there is a festival offering a full weekend of activities, including community events, markets, and family-oriented attractions. So why don't we mark this day?
Devon Day is celebrated each year on 4 June and is linked to Saint Petroc, one of Devon’s best-known saints and an important figure in the county’s early history.
However here in the County of Devon in the UK there are no events to mark this day. Its is however suggested its more about celebrating everything that makes Devon special—from its coastline and countryside to its communities, businesses, food, and traditions.
In Devon, Alberta Canada its a different story. From 4th to 7th June there will be, pancake breakfasts, fairground rides, a concert, comedy night and even a parade.
So are we Devon in the UK missing an opportunity to promote the County we live in or just happy with our lot?
